THE LAST MOMENT OF FALSE HOPE
|
THE LAST MOMENT OF FALSE HOPE is currently a short one-act play, but I'm
considering doubling its length to around 30 minutes. I guess I just feel I've more
to say about its themes: love, marriage, fidelity, and endless, hopeless desire.
THE LAST MOMENT OF FALSE HOPE was originally produced as part of Theatre
Odyssey's 3 x 3 event in late February and early March of 2009. Seva Anthony
and Tom Aposporos originated the roles of Catherine and Brad.

Poetry is my origin, my center, my omphalos. I've never fancied
myself as a great poet, or even a good one, but I have found
poetry to be a challenge that inspires me to deeper and more
creative thought. For me, poetry is the art of chasing words
that fit emotions, and since that act itself signifies an
impossibility, poetry comes closer to truth than any other
literary art form.
I am
I was
I will forever be
No mortal end can conquer me
For nothing that has lived shall die
And nothing more alive than I
- published in The Poet
My sonnets were written as part of a creative experiment that has never ended. The
mis-connection between language and emotion for me is never greater than when you
attempt to fit words into a predefined structure. As anyone who reads enough of my work
knows, I love Keats, and his sonnets inspired me to choose this particular form. As the project
progressed, however, I found myself within the form even when I abandoned my concerns
with rhyme and meter.
The sonnets are presented in the order they were written.
